Do you ever book a photoshoot and as the shoot gets closer you realize you have no clue what to wear? Well this will answer any questions you might have!
Sometimes the hardest part is finding an outfit you think will be cute ,comfortable, presentable, etc. It takes lots of thinking and here’s some steps to make that process a little easier!
#1: Comfort!
A big thing I say to prioritize is your comfort! Whether it’s physical comfort making sure your pants aren’t too tight. Or if your skirt is too short and it’s making you worried you are gonna flash someone!
avoid things like:
- super short skirts
- shoes you can’t walk far in
- don’t wear something that doesn’t match the real temperature outside
- and ESPECIALLY don’t wear something you feel self conscious in!

#2: color/pattern
Colors and patterns are VERY crucial in the outfit picking process. You know want to pick colors that won’t pop and you especially don’t want to pick patterns that clash!
some examples of good color pallets to base off of:

PatTerns to avoid:
Tip: think about your location and what goes with the background and what clashes or blends in
#3: dimension/movement
Do you ever wonder why you don’t look as lively in your photos as others do? Maybe part of it is your clothes don’t have enough movement and dimension!
My favorite way to gain movements in a photo is by having the person wear a skirt/dress. This adds the option to twirl around and have fun
My favorite way to add dimension is through layering clothing! Jean jackets are always a win because they match just about anything!
#4: Correlating with others
Lots of people recommend correlating with others over matching. I personally love both!
A good way to correlate is by wearing the same colors/patterns but not the EXACT same outfit. For example white top green bottoms. But one person has a tank top and skirt and the other has a blouse and bottoms
Notice how the one on the left has a gingham skirt while the one on the right is also wearing gingham but on here top
And they both match! Which I also find so cute
#5: Pinterest/asking for help
It seems really self explanatory but Pinterest can be a HUUUUGE help! Also as a photographer I love when people ask for advice of what to wear to the shoot! It can be very tricky not knowing exactly what the person has but having people send options and inspo is always fun to help them work out!
#6: Be presentable!
Presentable does NOT have to be a dress. Presentable can be as little as a nice sweater or a cute ruffle tank top! Obviously dresses are great too and I LOVVVVVVVVE them and the opportunity’s have. But if you don’t wanna wear anything crazy fancy and it’s just a photoshoot for fun then don’t worry!!
Lastly have fun!
Some people may be nervous going into a photoshoot (sometimes I am too with new people!) but trust me you will warm up so fast! Usually after literally a few photos I can see the stiffness go away and there confidence shine! It’s cheesy but it’s so true. And trust me I’ll make sure you warm up because I talk when I’m awkward, or scared, or happy, kinda always taking soooooooo. :)
